Cafe Tacuba performs in LA Listening Event
by MCA Records
Santa Monica, California, May 12, 2003 – Between festival dates in California and Texas, Mexico’s preeminent alt-rockers Café Tacuba recently hosted a private Los Angeles performance and advance listening party for their next album, Cuatro Caminos, set for July 1 release on MCA Records. The band has also completed a new music video for the album’s lead single, “Eo (el sonidero),” shot in Café Tacuba’s hometown of Mexico City with acclaimed Icelandic directors Arni & Kinski (Sigur Ros “Svefn g englar”) and producer Natasha Alexsa.

Cuatro Caminos, the band’s first full-length release since the 1999 release of their Grammy-winning 2-CD set Reves/Yo Soy, is a collaborative work, with 14 tracks co-produced by the band, with Gustavo Santaolalla (all previous Café Tacuba albums, Juanes, Molotov, Puya), Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), and Andrew Weiss (Ween). In addition to their surprise private performance at the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles, Café Tacuba also recently unveiled songs from Cuatro Caminos at Houston’s International Festival and at the Coachella Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA.
“(Café Tacuba’s) inventive blend of folk, pop, psychedelia and the occasional flexing of a hard rock riff was unpretentious and endlessly inclusive.” - Los Angeles Times Coachella review (4/29)

Café Tacuba’s 1992 critically acclaimed eponymous debut album was followed by 1994’s groundbreaking Re, leading to international critical praise and White Album comparisons in terms of the album and the band’s importance. Avalancha de Éxitos, a collection of cover songs, spawned several hits and a 13-country / 59-date megatour. In 1999, the band released the Grammy-winning 2-CD package: the instrumental Revés paired with Yo Soy. In addition, Café Tacuba supported Beck on his Midnight Vultures tour, collaborated with the Kronos Quartet on last year’s Grammy-nominated album, Nuevo, and wrote new songs for the soundtracks to the acclaimed Mexican films Amores Perros and Y Tu Mama Tambien.

Last October, Café Tacuba’s “Vale Callampa” EP was released by MCA Records. The tribute CD contains four songs selected from the repertoire of another talented, though recently disbanded group that Café Tacuba is linked to in both friendship and admiration: Chile’s Los Tres.

Café Tacuba is: Elfego Buendía - lead vocals, guitar; Emmanuel Del Real - keyboards, programming, vocals, guitar; Enrique Rangel - bass, vocals; and Joselo Rangel - guitars, vocals.
